Aboriginal DNA testing can be conducted for the following reason:

Membership – Each First Nation has their own membership requirements. Some First Nations enroll new members based on a patrilineage or matrilineage requirement while others enroll new members based on direct lineal descendency criteria. DNA paternity, maternity or kinship testing can be used to establish a relationship between a current member of a First Nation and an applicant.
