Domestic Paternity
A DNA paternity test in domestic adoption cases may be required in cases where the alleged father contests the adoption process or in a surrogacy case, when the surrogate mother is married. In such cases, a DNA paternity test will usually be required to confirm his biological relationship to the child. A DNA paternity test for adoption purposes is very similar to a routine DNA paternity test for child support with the exception that the tested child might be in the care of a foster parent. In such cases, the legal guardian (i.e. government agency, grandparents etc) will need to sign the consent form. While it is preferred that the mother of the child provides a sample as well, it is possible to complete a paternity test without the mother’s sample. Post-Adoption Reunions
If an adoptive child wishes to confirm his/her relationship with an alleged biological parent, Orchid Cellmark’s routine DNA paternity or DNA maternity test can provide the answer. In addition, if two or more adopted children wish to confirm if they are paternally and/or maternally related, Orchid Cellmark can conduct a kinship test.
