Transfer of Specimens

When the Accessioning Department approves the release of the specimens for DNA testing, they provide a sheet of bar codes to the DNA laboratory. The DNA laboratory uses these bar codes to label the various tubes and paperwork at each step of the testing process. At every transfer point, the items are scanned against the data in the computer and if the data does not match, the test will not proceed until the issue has been rectified.
