Will the results be accepted in a legal matter?
Due to the fact that Orchid Cellmark is a fully accredited laboratory, the results of a Court Ready DNA kinship test can be used in any legal matter and will be accepted in a court of law, assuming the Chain of Custody form was completed in accordance with Orchid Cellmark’s strict Chain of Custody guidelines. The results of a Curiosity test will not be accepted in any legal matter.

What will sibship results indicate?
A sibship result will indicate the percentage probability of the individuals being related as they were alleged to be related.

Will a kinship test always be conclusive?
It is not possible to guarantee that the results of a kinship test will be conclusive however typically if at least 3 first degree relatives of the deceased individual are tested, the results will be conclusive.

What will grandparentage results indicate?
A grandparentage result will indicate the percentage probability that the grandparent or grandparents are related to the grandchild. If both grandparents are tested, and if they do not match the tested child, it is possible that the result will indicate a probability of grandparentage of 0.00%.

What will a mitochondrial DNA report indicate?
A mitochondrial DNA report will indicate the percentage probability of a matrilineal relationship between the tested parties.
 

What will a Y-STR report indicate?
A Y-STR report will indicate the percentage probability of a patrilineal relationship between the tested parties.
