Minifiler STR analysis involves the examination of eight mini STR’s (plus the gender marker, Amelogenin) from compromised, aged or degraded DNA samples. The mini STR’s which are examined are smaller versions of eight of the most commonly tested STR’s in forensic testing. Go to
Comparison of STR Kits for more information.
Minifiler analysis is recommended in the following types of forensic cases:
- Challenged samples in which the initial test using routine STR’s yielded results at only a few markers
- Missing persons cases involving highly decomposed remains
- Cold cases involving aged DNA and/or evidence
Minifiler has the added benefit of being very cost-effective relative to Mitochondrial DNA analysis, which has been the technology of choice for degraded samples in the past.
