Prior to DNA analysis, items may need to be screened for the presence of biological fluids. Orchid Cellmark provides both presumptive and confirmatory tests. Presumptive testing simply indicates the presence of a body fluid. Confirmatory tests involve additional procedures to identify a body fluid.

 

Orchid Cellmark provides presumptive testing for blood, saliva and semen. DNA profiles, originating from blood, saliva or semen may be obtained from items such as clothing, watches, cigarette butts, partially eaten food and drinking containers that the perpetrator may have left at the scene of the crime. A swabbing or cutting from these items is used for analysis.

 

Orchid Cellmark provides confirmatory tests for semen and blood. The confirmatory tests for semen include the microscopic identification of spermatozoa and the presence of prostatic protein, p30. The Hematrace test is used to confirm the presence of blood.
