Testing Steps

A DNA forensic test involves essentially 3 steps:

  1. SPECIMEN HANDLING AND SHIPPING
Orchid Cellmark customer service specialists are available for consultation on the proper way to collect, store and ship a sample for infidelity or non-standard testing. We can also provide specimen collection kits for the collection of a known cheek swab sample if the client wishes to conduct a comparison test. Please contact 1-800-563-4363 for more information.
  2. LABORATORY TESTING
Once the samples are received by our laboratory, the following steps occur:
    • Samples are assigned a unique bar code and are logged into our laboratory database
    • Samples and paperwork are examined for completeness
    • Samples are analyzed
    • Results are triple checked
    • Reports are generated
    • Final report is verified by Ph.D. Laboratory Director
  3. DISTRIBUTION OF RESULTS
Upon completion of the test, results will be distributed to the tested parties as they have indicated on their application form. Distribution options include standard mail, email or by phone. The phone release of results will include reference to a password that only the client will know. The phone release of results can be set up on a call-in basis only; that is, Orchid Cellmark will not place any outgoing calls unless otherwise instructed by the client.
