A Curiosity or “at-home” paternity test involves the collection of painless cheek swab samples in a non-clinical setting, most often in the privacy of your own home. Orchid Cellmark provides self-contained kits with easy-to-follow instructions, for at home collections. There is no requirement for a third party to collect the samples and the chain of custody procedure is less rigorous. Alternatively, it is possible to test samples other than cheek swab samples (non-standard samples).

The results of a curiosity test are accurate and reliable. The results will indicate a probability of paternity of either 0.00%, in cases of exclusions, or 99.99% on average, in cases of inclusions. However since samples are self-collected and there is no chain of custody, the final report cannot be used in a legal matter. The results are for the use of the tested parties only.
