Orchid Cellmark, formerly Helix Biotech, has been providing highly pure organic chemical standards to environmental research and analytical communities for more than 20 years.
Our products can be separated into three main groups:
1. Chlorinated Phenol and Resin Acid Standards - These compounds are used as standards in the research and analysis of chlorinated by-products of the bleaching process in pulp mill effluents. These include cholorinated phenols and derivatives and resin acids.
2. Drinking Water Dis-infection By-product Standards - These compounds are used to monitor drinking water for the presence of disinfection by-products. These include haloketones (bromo- and mixed chlorobromopropanones), halonitromethanes, halomethanes, haloacetaldehydes, haloacetamides, haloacids and haloacetonitriles.
3. General Environmental Contaminant Standards - These compounds are metabolites of chemicals used most commonly in solvents, additives and plasticizers. At this time, this line focuses on the phthalate monoesters.
Custom Synthesis
We are also willing to consider any custom syntheses you may require. Examples of such custom syntheses include parabens and a bisphenol A metabolite. We have also prepared a variety of C13-labeled haloacetic acids, haloacetamides and halonitromethanes. These latter compounds have been identified as toxic compounds in drinking water (see Technical References)
We are also able to provide bulk quantities - potentially up to 1 kg - of some of the products in our current product offering.
