The purity of Orchid Cellmark organic chemical standards is analyzed and verified using gas chromatography. The gas chromatography is conducted on a Hewlett Packard 5890 Gas Chromatograph flame ionization detector using a HP 1 fused silica capillary column of 0.2 mm X 25 m dimensions. Boiling points of liquids and melting points of solids are all checked to ensure that they match what is reported in published literature. When new compounds are initially developed, the first samples are also checked by mass spectrometry and nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometry to ensure purity and accuracy.
